IN A GOOD CHURCH … the people enjoy God. To them religion is not just a list of do’s and don’t’s, but intimate communion with the Lord. Bible reading, prayer, faith and obedience are essential, but not the ultimate goal – they are the means to the end which is enjoying God Himself.  (Psalm 16:11)

IN A GOOD CHURCH … the people enjoy each other - they love to fellowship. They frustrate the janitor because they hang around long after the service is over just enjoying each other’s company. They get together outside of regularly scheduled fellowship times. They love kids and their kids love church. They are humble people concerned for the purity of the church, but not too quick to judge. They are charitable, hospitable and friendly. They are, in the truest sense of the word, family. (Psalm 133:1Heb. 10:25)

IN A GOOD CHURCH … worship is heartfelt and Christ-centered; that is, it draws attention away from the worshipper to Christ. It is not a showy display, but the humble expression of people rejoicing in God. (John 4:24)

IN A GOOD CHURCH … the people pray publicly and privately for everything, but their prayer is not always petition, sometimes it is just communion. Prayer is the breath of the church. When the church prays the body is breathing; when the church stops praying the body is dead. Prayer is unhurried conversation with God. A good church is a house of prayer.  (Philippians 4:6)

IN A GOOD CHURCH … doctrine is important. A good church majors in the essential truths of the Christian faith and minors in the minors. The teaching is Bible-based and Christ-centered. The whole counsel of God’s Word is taught verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter. Its people are being led by the Spirit of God through the Scriptures He inspired, not apart from them. In a good church the people are being fed, not just baby food, but meat from God’s Word. The teaching is challenging, it is thought-provoking and it is convicting. Best of all, it is offered free of charge: free counselling, discipleship, marriage enrichment and training for ministry. (Psalm 119:105)

IN A GOOD CHURCH … outreach is not only a scheduled event, but a way of thinking, a lifestyle. The church is not ingrown but outreaching. A good church takes the great commission seriously. They believe in community outreach and support foreign missions. (1 Peter 3:15)
